چکیده

The framework for a unified QoS support mechanism for IP traffic over UMTS and Wireless LANs is discussed. The work addresses the potential issues that emerge when using UMTS and WLANs as access systems to an IP core and focuses on defining a consistent mechanism that will support QoS and resource reservation in a unified. The proposed approach utilizes the RSVP for negotiating QoS parameters and reserving resources in an end-to-end basis. A proper mapping of QoS parameters of RSVP parameters on UMTS and 802.11e QoS parameters is presented and the required signalling exchange is described in detail.

A new SDN-based framework for wireless local area networks

Nowadays wireless networks are becoming important in personal and public communication andgrowing very rapidly. Similarly, Software Dened Network (SDN) is an emerging approach to over-come challenges of traditional networks. In this paper, a new SDN-based framework is proposedto ne-grained control of 802.11 Wireless LANs. This work describes the benets of programmableAcc...

Implementation Experiences of Bandwidth Guarantee on a Wireless LAN

The Rether[1] protocol was originally developed to support guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for shared Ethernet LANs. In view of the growing popularity of IEEE 802.11-based wireless LANs, we have modified the Rether protocol to provide QoS guarantee on these networks. In this paper, we present the design and software-only implementation of the Wireless Rether protocol for 802.11 networks, as...

Convergence of UMTS and Internet Services for End-to-end Quality of Service Support

Internet evolution delineated through the last years has urged the wireless network community to adopt the support of the IP protocol. The deployment of IP multimedia services with guaranteed quality of service in both the access and core network is one of the primary requirements for 3G wireless networks. This paper focuses on issues regarding interoperability with external, “wired” QoS-enable...

A framework for dynamic SLA-based QoS control for UMTS

With the evolution of QoS-capable third generation (3G) wireless networks, the wireless community has been increasingly looking for a framework that can provide an effective, network independent, end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) control. In this article, we first construct such a framework and then describe how dynamic SLA-based control can be used to achieve end-to-end QoS in a wired and wi...

Secure, QoS-Enabled Mobility Support for IP-based Networks

The rising number of mobile users, the advent of various radio access technologies, and the increasing importance of IP services over wireless as well as wired networks pose a number of new challenges. While Mobile IP has been designed for mobility management in IP networks, it may result in high latency and signaling overhead during handoff. Thus, advanced mobility mechanisms improving Mobile ...
